This tour invites you into landscapes that look almost alien — the moon-landscapes of the Namib, the strangely shaped rocks, the colours shifting with the sun, hidden gullies, ancient geology. You’ll visit iconic places such as Deadvlei with its blackened tree skeletons against chalk-white clay pan and orange dunes, the valley of the giants at Sossusvlei, the endless ridges of sand, the silence of early morning.
Along the way there may be visits to hidden springs, quiet desert wildlife and hushed moments under huge skies. Tourist attractions include: the Sesriem Canyon, the Namib gravel plains, the dune climb at Dune 45. A quirky piece of trivia: Namibia is home to the oldest desert in the world — the Namib is thought to have been arid for at least 55 million years, so many of the landscapes you see evolved under extreme conditions.
So: expect introspective beauty, strong shapes and contrasts, light and shadow, and landscapes that make you pause.
